Iowa State University hosted the Biobased Industry Outlook Conference on March 7 and 8, 2004. The conference educated attendees about the biobased industry and the opportunities it provides for economic development.

The event began with a reception on March 7 at 7 p.m. The reception featured new biobased technologies being explored by researchers throughout the Midwest, including researchers at ISU, the University of Iowa, and University of Northern Iowa.

Informational meetings on March 8 featured speakers from USDA, DOE, ISU, biobased companies and the Federal Preferred Procurement Program for Biobased Products. The morning session included biobased business success stories and the industry outlook.

After lunch, a biobasics shortcourse explained biobased value chains and opportunities businesses and communities may want to consider. The final afternoon session on March 8th provided more information about the Federal Biobased Products Preferred Procurement Program.

Informational displays and networking opportunities were abundant during the conference and led to many new ideas and discussions about the bioindustry.
